How it works
Winner takes all
We’re sick of photography competitions that are scammy, money making schemes for the organizers.
We’re keeping things simple with a cash prize that is worth winning:
- $10 minimum entry fee
- Capped at 1,000 photographers or when the prize pot hits $10,000
- $10,000 cash prize for the best photo
The judging process will be shared on the Photography Explained YouTube channel.
Credit card fees, admin charges and other costs are being taken care of by PhotographyExplained.com.
What happens next
Click one of the buttons below to enter 3x, 6x or 9x images. You'll then be taken to a payment form.
Complete the form and you'll be emailed a link to submit your photos.
If your photos make it through to the final 100 images, we will connect with you, ask for the RAW file for verification and you can share a little information about the photo itself.
Entries will close on Friday 28th February 2025.
The winner will be announced and payment made on the 30th April 2025.

Terms and Conditions
- Cost: $10 to enter 3 images, $15 to enter 6 images or $20 to enter 9 images.
- Maximum of 3 entries (9 images) per person.
- All genres, styles and subjects accepted.
- Judging criteria: Creativity (25%), execution of the shot (25%), the story behind the image (25%), composition (25%).
- No AI generated imagery is permitted to be entered into the awards.
- Open to amateurs and professionals.
- Any entrant under 18 on the date at which they enter the competition must gain the permission of a parent or guardian.
- Images must not have been shortlisted in other photography competitions.
- Verification of an image will require the photographer to provide the original, unedited RAW file(s) for the image, as well as a screengrab of their image cataloguing software (such as Lightroom) showing the winning image alongside other images of the same subject from the same shoot.
- The situation, the circumstance or the settings will make up 20% of the voting criteria.
- The Promoter reserves the right, in their sole discretion, to disqualify or remove any entry that does not comply with the rules or the spirit of the awards, at any stage of the awards.
- Images must be submitted by the photographer who took them.
- The photographer must own the copyright to the submitted images.
- Images can be of any subject, anywhere in the world.
- The Copyright for each image entered will remain with the submitting photographer.
- By entering the Competition and submitting your photograph(s), you hereby grant the Promoter a non-exclusive, irrevocable license to use your photograph(s) for any purpose connected with the Competition and PhotographyExplained.com content, including (but not limited to), promoting the Competition within printed and online media, the inclusion within printed and digital versions of any Competition book, use in press, promotional and marketing materials, social media networks, training workshops and for the promotion of any future photographic competition in both print and online media.
- Note: The legalease above has to be included to prevent shenanigans (i.e. the winners photo is used in a video and then they demand that we remove the video announcing the winner etc). Simply, if you don’t wish to grant rights to your images, email me directly within 24 hours of submitting them (Will@PhotographyExplained.com).
- Images can’t be changed or swapped once submitted.
- You agree to participate in related publicity and to the use of your name and likeness for the purposes of advertising, promotion and publicity without additional compensation.
- The promoter is excluded from liability for any loss, damage or injury which might occur to any of the winners arising from their acceptance of the prizes. Entrants indemnify the Promoter for all liabilities, including legal costs, in relation to any action or complaint taken by any third party against the Promoter in relation to the entrant’s photograph(s).
- The promoter reserves the right to cancel this Competition, in which case any entry fees paid will be refunded.
- The promoter reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions. These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by English law. When a photograph is submitted and the entry date has passed, the entry cannot be changed or withdrawn. No refunds will be given. Entry to the Awards shall be deemed full and unconditional acceptance of the terms & conditions.
